Description: Matillija Poppies grow wild in California and got their name from an Indian legend. They can be seen in the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary in Irvine, and sometimes get called the Fried Egg plant. They are huge flowers that are quite impressive in their size and have very delicate translucent petals with the large "yolk" in the center that bees and bumble bees love.
